Game Summary
Against All Odds, Yanks win with eight men out

Dennis Bresnahan and Andy Green combined on a masterful pitching performance as the undermanned Charleston Yankees rallied for a 6-3 win over the NL first place Pirates© Bresnehan shook off two game cancellations, a 20 minute pre-game long toss session, a three week layoff, and three early Pirate runs to go 6 strong innings, giving up 5 hits with 2 K's and 1 BB© Andy Green mopped up the Pirates in the final 3 innings giving up 0 H with 2 K's and 1 BB© At the plate, Moonlight Gary Graham had a memorable performance going 2-4 with two key singles and two runs scored© Rookie Mike Hamel started the Yankee comeback in the 6th with a crucial 9 pitch walk© After a Pirate error, Moonlight ripped a single to left to plate the game tying run© "The ball looked like a watermelon up there", Graham added© With one out John Scudder 9 ironed a two run HR down the left field line to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead© Scudder was 2-5 on the day© Moonlight brought the crowd to their feet again in the 7th with a long blast to right field, but the wind brought it back to the warning track© The Yanks added some State Farm in the 9th© Spearchucker Bresnahan led off with a double, his 2nd hit in 5 plate appearances on the day, and then came around to score on a wild pitch to make it a 6-3 game© The Yanks look to keep the momentum going against the Blue Birds this Tuesday night in a rematch at Goose Creek HS©

ALTERNATE SUMMARY:

Playing with only 8 players and no umpires the Yankees
overcame a 3 run deficit in the 5th and 6th innings to
defeat the NL first place Pirates at Dennis Park
Sunday.  
Bresnehan picked up the win going 7 strong
innings allowing only 5 Pirate hits.  Graham and
Scudder both had 2 hits for the Yankees.  Scudder
provided the difference in the 6th with a one out three-
run homerun to give the Yankees the lead for good.
Gregg Gathers added a homerun for the Pirates and two
hits.  Stoudenmire pitched well for the Pirates going
all nine innings striking out 14 and only allowing 1
earned run.
